Digital x-rays, also known as digital radiographs, are taken in a dental exam to allow for a better view of your oral health. X-rays allow our team to diagnose concerns that are not visible by the naked eye and to learn about the health of the inside of your teeth, gums, and jawbone. There are several oral health conditions that can be seen on digital images, such as decay, cavities, cysts, abscesses, bone loss, and tooth impaction. When these conditions are discovered early, they may have more effective and less invasive treatment options. During your dental exam at SEDA Dental in Boynton Beach, FL, x-rays will help to accurately diagnose and treat oral health conditions.

In general, x-rays are a part of your dental exam. They can be administered as part of a preventive dental treatment plan or if you are experiencing pain in your mouth. Though digital x-rays use less radiation than film x-rays, SEDA Dental likes to minimize patient exposure. While they are usually safe for any patient, women who are breastfeeding or may be pregnant should talk to our team at the beginning of the appointment so extra precautions can be taken.
What to Expect
Often done at the beginning of your dental exam, digital x-rays take about 5 – 10 minutes to complete. Most patients will have a series of x-rays taken to include all areas. After they are complete, they are uploaded and can be viewed by you and our team during your examination. We will assess if there are any areas of concern and go over treatment options.
A series of digital images will generally be performed once a year at your dental exam. For some visits, a whole mouth series may be performed to get a more comprehensive view of the teeth, gums, and jaw. Your digital images will be stored with your oral health file at SEDA Dental so we can view changes over time and chart any developing problems.
Usually, dental insurance will include and cover digital imaging costs as part of a dental exam. Our office will contact your insurance company to estimate any balances. For any out-of-pocket expenses or if you do not have dental insurance, SEDA Dental accepts many payment methods, and we can give you information on medical financing.
X-rays are an advanced technology that can help diagnose hidden oral issues. As a step in a regular dental exam, they are able to provide a unique view and allows for a diagnosis of developing conditions to be corrected before becoming painful.
