Best Candidates

Classic metal braces are a great option for both children and adults. Our conventional braces are crafted from top-grade stainless steel archwires and brackets that are strategically placed to give you the stunning smile you want. They are an ideal option for patients with jaw alignment problems, crowded or gapped teeth, under- or over-bites, and protruding teeth. We also use high-quality elastics that do not easily break and are simple to apply. In your consultation, we will go over your orthodontic treatment choices and help you pick the method that fits your goals.

What to Expect

After your initial consultation, a personalized treatment plan will be developed for your specific case. On the day of your appointment, your teeth will be thoroughly prepped and cleaned prior to placing your metal braces. Once we have brushed the bonding agent to your teeth, your metal braces will be placed. Once all the mounts are done, the archwire will be threaded through them. Then you will be able to select your desired elastic band color(s). The small bands keep the archwires attached to the braces. The application process generally moves fairly quickly and patients often experience no pain. You can expect to return to our office once a month for adjustments and progress exams.

Traditional braces can make cleaning and flossing your teeth more challenging. That is why proper oral hygiene is essential to your orthodontic treatment. After your braces are put on, a member of our team will educate you on how to best clean your teeth and give you helpful tips. As a general rule, we recommend that you brush and floss your teeth after every meal. Keeping all your appointments and regular dental cleanings may also help ensure optimal results. Normally, most patients use braces for 1 – 2 years, but your treatment time will be based on the seriousness of your case.

After your treatment is over, we will remove the braces and fit you for a retainer. A retainer will keep your teeth in their location. We will help you choose the perfect retainer for your needs.

If you have a problem with your braces, don't panic. You may be able to address many problems temporarily by yourself until you schedule a repair appointment with our office. These problems do not need to cause a delay in your treatment. Anytime that you think you can't handle your orthodontic problem, please call us.
Loose Band or Bracket
If the band or bracket is still attached to the wire, leave it in place. If it is uncomfortable, place orthodontic wax or sugarless gum on it. Sometimes it is possible to remove the elastic with tweezers so you can detach the bracket from the wire.
Loose Wire
Try to push the cord into place using tweezers. If that is not possible, clip the wire with fingernail clippers or small wire cutters behind the tooth that it is securely fastened to. If it is causing discomfort, set orthodontic wax or sugarless gum on it.
Poking Wire
Place orthodontic wax or sugarless gum on the wire.
There may be soreness for several days after each office visit. Carefully chew on sugarless gum after adjustments to minimize soreness. Use warm salt water rinses and/or take an over-the-counter pain reliever as necessary.
Loose Appliance
If the appliance is sticking or poking you, set orthodontic wax or sugarless gum on it to keep it in place.

Insurance Coverage

When compared to other treatments, traditional metal braces are generally less expensive. During your consultation, our financial team will go over your treatment options and cost estimates so you can pick the method that best meets your goals and budget. If you have dental insurance, we will talk to your provider to understand your coverage and determine your personal costs. If you do not have insurance, SEDA Dental accepts many payment methods, and we can help you find medical financing.
